 Dragons at AFC Bournemouth

Bere Regis Dragons at the AFC Bournemouth Trophy Cabinet.

March/April 2006

Bere Dragons 6: Weymouth Victoria 0

Scorers: Ollie (3), Harry, Jordan, Tom

It was only fitting that a season of such great promise from these fire-breathing young dragons should finish with a roasting of yet another Weymouth team. Ollie showed what a little talent he is, with the kind of finishing that Peter Crouch would give his eye teeth for. Harry continued his scoring streak with a classic and Jordan once again showed us how a free kick should be taken with a pearler from long distance. Tom also capped a classy display with a smartly taken goal, whilst Darren added another clean sheet to his collection. They may have missed out on the Cup final, but they certainly showed the crowd what the final will be missing. A hearty congratulations to the coaches and managers for such a successful season…..

Juniors - February/March 2006

Bere Dragons 6: Dorchester Stars 0

Scorers: Laurence (4), Ollie, Harry

There is no doubt that when this Bere Dragons side is on song they sing some very sweet music indeed. Against Dorchester Stars, they were extremely melodic, with Laurence acting as conductor. A masterclass of trickery and pinpoint finishing eclipsed the stars and gave Bere’s cup campaign a memorable start. This was not just a one man show, though, as the team played their way through the opposition with ease. Ollie’s precise shooting was frustrated only by Dorchester’s exceptional keeper, whilst Harry finally got the goal his performance deserved with a tap in at the far post in the last minute.

Weymouth Cougars 4: Bere Dragons 1

Scorer: Harry

Against the Cougars, Bere watched their 1-0 lead from the first half disappear in a, shall we say, robust second half that gave Bere a lesson on how to win the game the hard way!

Bere Dragons 1: Weymouth Colts 3

Scorer: Jake

The old enemy were next, in the form of Weymouth Town’s academy team, a team that Bere have drawn twice against this season. Bere came close again, but this time Weymouth pipped them at the post. The Cup final is now probably beyond them, yet I am sure that they will continue to play football the way it should be played…….beware of sleeping dragons!

Juniors - January/February 2006

Dorchester Raiders 1: Bere Dragons 3

Scorers: Ollie (hat-trick!)

Bere Dragons 1: Poole Colts 0

Scorer: Jake

Poole Colts 2: Bere Dragons 0

Thank God for the Under 9’s Dragons. As both adult teams start to falter the youngsters continue to go from strength to strength under Mark’s watchful eye and bawling mouth! Three tricky games were negotiated well, the best match being the away win against Dorchester Raiders when Ollie showed us what scoring is all about with yet another hat-trick and a performance that surely cant go unnoticed by Sven for June (2015 that is!). The Poole Colts manager must have noticed this because both home and away against them he was a marked Dragon (in more ways than one!). With Ollie forced off at home it was down to Jake to take on the shooting boots and he duly obliged with the winner in the first half. This, for one marvellous week, took Bere to the lofty heights of second. However, the last game against Poole was another hard encounter and this time Bere were outmuscled by a very physical Colts team. Still no silverware, but the Cup awaits this team of fire breathing dragons…..

December 2005

Bere Dragons 6: Weymouth Victoria 0

Scorers: Ollie(2); Jordan(2); Tom; Jake

A quiet month for the young dragons has only seen the one game, but what a game as they once again cut through the opposition like a knife through butter. The first goal from young Tom was, quite simply, outstanding as he jinked his way around the whole of the opposition from inside his own half and poked it past the keeper. Ollie and Jake ensured that the game was won by half time and it was simply a case of how many. The second half was the Jordan show as he showed us what a talented youngster he is. One minute he would be breaking up their attacks with his ferocious tackling, the next he would be showing us what an outstanding free kick taker he is. His first free kick was a hammer into the bottom corner from an acute angle. His second was an absolute corker as he drilled it into the top corner from the halfway line, prompting the opposition manager to shout ‘Don’t give away any more free kicks!’. Ollie finished off the scoring with a typical poacher’s goal and Bere remain within touching distance of second with a couple of games left. The Dragons are all fired up and ready to roar……

December

Weymouth Victoria 0: Bere Dragons 11 Scorers: Ollie(5); Jake(3); Harry(2); Jordan

Bere Dragons 8: Lytchett RT 0 Scorers: Ollie(3); Jake(2); Laurence; Harry; Tom

Weymouth Terras 3: Bere Dragons 0

It's amazing what a little financial incentive will do to a child! When Roman Larderovitch made a bold promise to pay £5 per goal and £5 to the keeper for a clean sheet, little did he know he would need a mortgage by the end of the game. A superb performance from each and every one drew praise from both managers, yes even Mark felt they played well, an occurrence on a par with Gascoigne passing a bar! And blow me down, they only went and did the same again the next week. Lytchett must have wondered what hit them as Ollie plundered another hat trick, Laurence showed us his box of tricks and Jake showed us how a left foot should be used. This time Roman did not make the same mistake and all they had to show for it was the heady heights of third place in the league. Unfortunately, a disappointing away performance in the next week saw them drop below the Terras again, with Darren, in goal, stopping an even worse result with an outstanding performance. The winter break should, hopefully, see Santa deliver new boots, shin pads and a hatful of goals for the little dragons because they have certainly been good so far this season.

November

Poole Borough 4: Bere Regis 1 Ollie

Bere Regis 2: Weymouth Colts 2 Scorers: Laurence, Harry

Bere Regis 3: Weymouth Terras 2 Scorers: Ollie, Harry, Laurence

Bere Regis continue to mix it with the big boys of Dorset football and continue to punch above their weight (not in a John Prescott type way though!). A rain interrupted month still had a couple of rays of sunshine for Bere. A defeat is a defeat I suppose, but against the runaway leaders a 4-1 defeat is no disgrace. Back at fortress Bere the youngsters are a different proposition, as two Weymouth teams have found. Jordan and Darren keep the opposition at bay, whilst Ollie, Harry and Laurence have found their scoring boots. The pick of the bunch was a screamer from Harry against the Terras that had the crowd on their feet (although admittedly there is nowhere to sit!). The one to savour, though, was Laurence's last minute winner in the same game that allowed Bere to leapfrog Terras in the league. If Mark keeps this up he will soon have the scouts watching, and the cubs wont be far behind….

After a promising first season last year, the Under 9's of Bere Regis now find themselves up against the 'big boys'. How can a little village team compete against the likes of Weymouth, Dorchester and Poole you may ask yourselves. The answer would appear to be pretty well.

Weymouth Cougars 2: Bere Regis 2
Scorers: Jake, Laurence

The first game saw Jake and Laurence earn a well deserved point for the Dragons after being two down at half time.

Bere Regis 0: Poole Borough 9

Poole Borough were like a proper Sunday roast, just a bit too tasty.

Lytchett RT Utd 0: Bere Regis 5
Scorers: Ollie (4), Vince

However, Bere soon showed their bouncebackability with a trouncing of Lytchett in the Ollie roadshow, as he weaved his way to four well deserved goals.

Bere Regis 2: Dorchester Raiders 3
Scorers: Harry, Laurence

A very close affair with the Raiders was settled with a late winner, but Bere showed more than enough talent going forward and Darren pulled off some blinding saves in goal. The main lesson from this game for the parents is that bribery works wonders as both goalscorers were promised a little bit extra pocket money if they scored.

If we are going to win the league this year, the parents are going to have to dig deep! Chelsea, eat your heart out…
