Mini Football 2011 - 2012

Champions!

Congratulations to our Under 11 footballers on becoming the Dorset Mini-Soccer League Champions. Having finished their league programme before any of the other teams there was an agonising wait before news that other results went thier way and, although finishing with the same number of points as Poole Town Wessex, Bere had a superior goal difference. Well done boys! Click here for the final league table

Under 11’s

Poole Town Wessex 8  Canford Heathlands High Flyers 1

And so it came to pass that on the morning of Sunday 26th February 2012, the above result meant that having waited for a number of weeks, Bere Regis U11’s were confirmed as champions of the Dorset Mini soccer league for the 2011-2012 season.

Under the guidance of Messrs ‘King Kenny’ Moss and ‘Stevie Clarke’ Hamilton, it was a real team effort from start to finish, proved by the fact that it was goal difference that decided the title in the end. A single save, a missed tackle or a missed goal scoring opportunity could have made all the difference and it was as much to do with the team spirit and camaraderie of the players, that won them the title in the end. It was also fully deserved for the effort that they put in, off the pitch at training as well.

The team got better and better with each game that was played and the players grew in confidence as the season progressed. As well as the above, the lads played some delightful football throughout the course of the season, as was testified by the growing crowds that came to watch them play on a Sunday afternoon. Thank-you one and all for all of your support, I know the lads appreciated it.

Congratulations lads, you have done the village, the football club and the sports club proud. Enjoy the moment, hold your heads up high but keep your feet on the ground. Watch out though- Arsene Wenger may be after ya!

08/01/12- Bere Regis 12  Milbourne Sports 1

A good return after the winter break and the lads carried on from where they had left off with a convincing win and some excellent pass and move football. This resulted in Brad Moss netting 7 (yes seven) with the most unselfish display seen for many a year, Oscar  Rayner  scored 2, and Louis Moore, Luke Selby Grace and Josh Hamilton also found the net. Stage one complete.

15/01/12 Bere Regis 6  Poole Town Wessex 2

And then they left their best till last. With most of the staff and parents appearing nervous at this possible title decider, the boys showed few nerves and undoubtedly produced their finest performance of the season. Luke Selby Grace settled any nerves that there were, with a sweet strike before Oscar Rayner doubled their lead following a slick passing move. Despite some brilliant defensive play by Josh Terry Hamilton and Matt Stell, well organized by Dan the cat Millar and ably assisted by Ed Kent and La White, Poole snatched one back before half time.

After the break, Bere continued to play impressive football with Oscar Rayner finishing neatly from a swift passing move and Louis Moore also toe poking one in. Bere continued to push forward and scored again through Luke Selby Grace, and once again through Louis Moore. Despite King Kenny Moss vocalizing loudly that the lads did not to throw the kitchen sink at it, Poole grabbed a goal right at the death which could prove costly as with this win and after a most impressive season, Bere finish top of the league and can only be overtaken on goal difference.

We’ll keep you posted.

The U11 Bere lads currently head their league going into the Christmas period, six points ahead of the chasing pack and with only two matches left to play (although the chasing pack have a few more games to play). Both of these games are at home at the theatre of dreams aka Bere rec. on the 8th and 15th January (2pm KO). The lads would like to see you there supporting them, as these games could decide the championship .

An excellent season so far lads, keep your feet on the ground and your heads held high.

6th November 2011 - Durweston 1 Bere Regis 4

A good response from the lads following the previous weeks result, with some exceptional pass and move football being played by Bere. Despite going a goal down against the run of play, Bere kept their heads up and drew level from a fine Brad ‘Luiz’ Moss header, before Bere with further goals from Luke Selby ‘Carrick’ Grace, Louis ‘Sturridge’ Moore, and a further stunner by Bradley Moss cruised home.  Mathew ‘Artois’ Stell was named man of the match for a steller performance in defence and after the initial blip, the Bere defence of Hamilton, Kent and with  Miller in goal, built the foundation upon which this win was built.

20th November 2011-  Poole Town Wessex 5 Bere Regis 2

Despite a loss to a particularly well drilled and well organized semi professional team, there was an exceptional first half display by the Bere lads which saw them leading 1-2 at half time. Chasing the ball and their opponents for much of the game, Bere didn’t give up and this work rate paid off when Louis’lone striker’ Moore cut in from the left, rounded the keeper and netted to give Bere the lead. They say teams are at their most vulnerable when they have just scored and this appeared to be the case as almost straight from the kick off Poole equalized. Luke Selby Grace then followed up a shot and netted the rebound off the keeper to give Bere the lead once again.
Bere appeared to run out of steam late in the second half and despite some fine saves by Dan the cat Miller, Poole scored a couple of quick goals in the latter stages to take the lead and with Bere now chasing the game left themselves vulnerable at the back which Poole took full advantage of.

27th November 2011-  Bere Regis 5 Canford Heathland Highfliers 3

Yet another goal fest at the rec of dream as Bere got back to winning ways. First half goals from Mad Brad Moss, Flukey Lukey Selby Grace and Chewy Louis Moore with only a single response from the visitors gave Bere the lead at half time.  The visitors scored first in the second half to make it interesting, before Luke Selby Grace grabbed his second shortly before Brad Moss did the same. Canford then grabbed a late consolation goal, but Bere had already secured all three points

4th December 2011 - Sturminster Marshall 2 Bere Regis 13

Yes you read it correctly and a performance that had the crowd purring and the management team of Paul ‘Dalglish’ Moss and James Stevie Clarke’ Hamilton stating ‘Best I have seen ‘em play as a team, very proud of them all’.
5 goals from Brad ‘malcolm Macdonald’ Moss led the way, with braces for Oscar dela Rayney and Louis ‘Mata’Moore and singles for Luke ‘lung buster’ Selby Grace and Jacob ‘Messi’ Haunsell. Connor ‘wickam’ Mills also opened his account for the club with a deft touch to round off the scoring

9/10/11 Canford Heathlands Highfliers 1 Bere Regis 2

In a hard fought match Canford took the lead, before some tactical genius by the management saw Bere equalize through Bradley Moss. That’s the way it stayed due to some superb reflex saves by Dan the cat Miller, until with 5 minutes to go,  a neat passing move down the right saw Bradley Moss once again arrive on cue, to stroke the ball home and give Bere all three points.

16/10/11 Bere Regis 7 Sturminster Marshall 3

A lunch time kick off at the rec, provided another goalfest and some rather attractive football. A hat trick from Luigi Moore, a brace from Bradley Mario Moss and singles from Luke Sonic Selby Grace and Oscar Omochao Rayner gave Bere the win against the Sturminster martians.  There were some fine performances also from Goomba Goldsack in goal, Hamma Jamma Hamilton and Koopa Troopa Kent in defence.

30/10/11 Bere Regis 4 Canford Heath 5

What a game. Memories of the Chelsea v Arsenal game the previous day came flooding back and apparently there was a similar refs performance by A D Mooriner as well!  Bere went 2 up with goals from Bradley Moss and Jacob Hounsell, but were pegged back to 2-2 by half time. In an end to end second half that had the crowd on their feet, and the Bere Kop rocking, Canford  took the lead early doors before Bradley Moss equalized and Jacob Hounsell squeezed in his second to give Bere the lead. Back came Canford to equalize themselves, before they then took the lead.  With time running out, Bere had a number of chances to equalize but either hit the plasticwork or found the Canford keeper in top form.

Canford Heathlands  3 Bere Regis 8

After a summer of the 3Rs (rest, relaxation and reminiscing of winning the Bere 6 a sides youth tournament), the team got off to a flying start away from home.  There were braces for Jacob Hounsell, Brad Moss and Luke Selby Grace, whilst Oscar Rayner capped a fine display with a finely taken goal. Morgan ‘ the cat 2’ made some great saves in goal, whilst Josh ‘Terry’ Hamilton scored an absolute screamer from just inside the oppositions half, to seal the victory.

Bere Regis 9 Durweston 2

Building on the confident display the week before, Bere went on another goal feast , with Brad Moss netting four times , Luke Selby Grace claiming a hat trick, and  Oscar ‘juan Mata’ Rayner  once again capping a fine display with another well taken goal. Having missed out on finding the onion bag during the previous 110 minutes of goal fest football this season, forward Louis ‘Fernando’ Moores managed to bag his first of the season with great assists from his team mates.

Milbourne Sports 2 Bere Regis 8

Jacob Hounsell,  Bradley Moss,  Luke Selby Grass,  Oscar Rayner 2  and Louis Moore 3 were the goal scorers. But it was the defensive duties of Josh Terry Hamilton, Matt’free summer  transfer ’ Stell (best bit of business Mossy’s done in his life!) and Ed ‘nobby stiles’ Kent who supplied the platform on which this victory was built. Dan the cat Miller stood tall behind them and Conner Mills came on for an impressive debut.
Canford Heathlands High flyers 1 Bere Regis 2.

Bere went behind for the first time this season, but lifted themselves up and came from behind to win. On finding themselves 0-1 down,  Jacob Hounsell who was full of running all afternoon , managed to find the net to draw Bere level, before Bradley Moss put Bere ahead with 5 minutes left to play. Some fine saves from Dan the cat Miller ensured that Bere came away with the points and an unblemished record so far this season.  Keep up the good football and playing as a team lads.

Dorset Mini League U9 section A

05/02/2012 Bere Regis 0 Weymouth FC Youth 8

Bere Regis hosted a very good Weymouth side that are pushing to win the title this season.  In something which is becoming a bit of ‘common theme’ Bere Regis began very slowly and found themselves 6 - 0 down by half time.

In a much improved second half only a further 2 goals were added to make the final score 8 – o.  The second half was a much improved effort and all the players continued to try their hardest until the final whistle and never gave up.  Hopefully in the next game we can try and start the game on the ‘front foot’.  Man of the match went to Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo for his tireless running in the heart of the midfield despite his ‘Torres like’ goal drought!

19/02/2012 Bere Regis 8 Wool and Winfrith 1

What a great performance!  In the first half Bere Regis created numerous chances which we didn’t take but took the lead through a great passing move which saw Declan ‘Hammer’ Horwood finish smartly.  Somehow we headed into the half time break at 1 – 1 after an excellent strike from Wool which gave our keeper no chance.

After the interval Bere Regis rang amok finishing off many of the chances which we couldn’t quite do in the first half.  The second half goals went to Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones with another hatrick and Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo finally ending his ‘Torres’ streak with 4.  This was one of the best performances of year with the team putting together much of what has been practiced over the season so far.  Man of the match went to Declan ‘Hammer’ Horwood who led the line well in the striker position.

26/02/2012 Swanage Town and Herston 0 Bere Regis 3

On a glorious day Bere Regis put in another fine performance running out comfortable winners 3 – 0.  The game was almost over by half time thanks to three fantastic individual goals scored by Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones (1) and Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo (2) which were almost ‘Messi’ like in the way they both ghosted past numerous players before calmly slotting the ball home!

The excellent management duo took the opportunity to try out some of the players in different positions in the second half which although did not add to the goal tally did create numerous chances.  Man of the match went to Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones for his all action display including a fine second half performance in the heart of our defence which is a different position to that which he normally occupies in midfield.

08/01/2012 Poole Town FC Wessex 1 Bere Regis 0

After the teams ‘mid winter break’ the boys went into this game on the back of some serious fitness work to get back in shape after all the mince pies consumed over Christmas.  This was a very hard fought and physical game in which both teams created numerous chances.
The home team took the lead however through a goal from a corner which appeared to rebound off one of the home teams rear end and in off the post!  Bere Regis pushed for an equaliser which we thought we had when a fantastic strike from Alex ‘thunder shot’ Knox Jones hit the roof of the net, just under the crossbar, which the referee somehow decided was not a goal!  Another great effort by the lads which was sadly not reflected in the final score and man of the match went to Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green for his all action display in the centre of midfield with yet another notable display from Nathan ‘Rooney’ Fellows in goal.

15/01/2012 Bere Regis 7 Portland United 1

What a win played out in front of a capacity crowd at the Bere Regis ‘Theatre of Dreams’ who turned out in their numbers for the first of three junior games taking place on the day!  After the two recent narrow defeats the boys turned in a fantastic display straight off the training ground with a fine range passing moves, individual skills and some fantastic strikes.
There were goals for Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones (4), Declan ‘Hammer’ Horwood (2) and 1 for Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green who was also celebrating his 9th birthday.  Man of the match went to Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones for his Steven Gerrard like display in the centre of midfield capped by his 4 superbly taken goals.

22/01/2012 Bere Regis 2 Wareham Rangers 4

During the first ten minutes of the match the home side looked in total control playing some great football and deservedly taking the lead through Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones.  Then Wareham began to make their way back in to the game and soon equalized.  Bere Regis re-took the lead again through Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones before Wareham scored again heading into the half time break at 2 – 2.
After the break, despite playing some good football and creating a number of chances, Bere Regis fell 4 – 2 down and that is how the score stayed until the full time whistle.  Man of the match went to Nat ‘the cat’ Hobbs for a great performance in the heart of the defence.

29/01/2012 Weymouth Cougars 6 Bere Regis 0

Bere Regis travelled to the league leaders in what was to be a hard fought encounter.  The visitors held the leaders at bay until mid-way though the first half when a well taken goal was lifted over the excellent goalkeeper Nathan ‘Rooney’ Fellows.  A couple of late first half goals meant the half time score was 3 – 0.
After the break Bere Regis battled hard without really creating too many chances but did manage to keep the score down to 6 – 0 at the final whistle which is no disgrace as come the end of the season the home side should be in with a very good chance of winning the league.  Man of the match went to Dec ‘Hammer’ Horwood who worked tirelessly as the lone striker.

10-12-11 Bere Regis 2 Poundbury 1

With almost a full squad back fit and healthy competition for places is high! So the boys gladly took there oppotunity to shine with a hard fort win with a second half display which was pleasing to the eye! Bere went 1-0 down at half time but after a talking to by Rus in the break Bere came out fighting with some great determination and passion! Tommy Williams snuck in at the back post to get a header after a sublime cross by Shane Hewitt! Then it was time for the young strikers to shine with persistant work from Tommy Holmes he slid the ball across for Azza Scott to pass into an open goal! Bere continued to play well and should of had another but was dubiously disallowed and we should of had a pen! M.O.M this week was Shane Hewitt for his wonderful wing play!!

17/12/11 Bere Regis 0 Wincanton res 1

This game was close from the start to the finish and I am sure it was a great game to watch! Bere made several chances but couldn't find the net even with Jonny Sanders sadly missing a penalty from a save from the opposition keeper! In the second half Wincanton nicked the winner which definately wasn't deserved! Well done to all the boys as they battled hard and thanks to all the support and help the club has had over 2011, happy Xmas and a happy new year!

06/11/2011 Weymouth FC Youth 7 Bere Regis1

Another tough fixture on the back of having played the league leaders only the week before.  The managers squad rotation system being optimised to keep the players as fresh as possible.  On a cold and windy day despite playing some good football we were slightly unfortunate to fall behind to the homes sides first shot of the game.  Despite this we continued to play our natural ‘pass and move’ game and soon equalised thanks to a calmly taken goal by Alfie ‘forever blowing bubbles’ Reeves.  Just seconds before the half time whistle Weymouth re-took the lead.

In the second half as we pushed further men (well boys!) forward in search of the equalizer, sadly we began to leak a few more goals with the final score finishing 7 – 1.  It was certainly not a scoreline reflective of the boys performance and for his fine ‘cat like’ and brave saves, man of the match went to Nathan ‘Rooney’ Fellows.

20/11/2011 Wool and Winfrith 4 Bere Regis 0

A slightly disappointing result in a game in which we had hoped to stop the recent run of results.  We found ourselves 1 nil down to a fine long range shot by the home side which gave Nathan ‘Rooney’ Fellows little chance.  We tried to find an equaliser but could not quite create clear enough chances.  A further goal was added shortly before the half time whistle.  As in the previous game we were caught out by 2 further goals as we went in search of goals to get us back in the game.  Man of the match went to Benji ‘Basher’ Lightfoot for an excellent performance in defence.  The management team are fearing the worst having been given the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’ after the recent run of results and fully understand how AVB feels!

27/11/2011 Bere Regis 4 Bridport Youth 4

The rot has been stopped!  In a fantastic game of football, both sides played excellent football supported by a capacity crowd at the ‘theatre of dreams’.  In a game in which both sides swapped the lead several times Bere Regis found themselves locked at 3 goals all thanks to goals by Nat ‘the cat’ Hobbs, Alex ‘thunder shot’ Knox Jones and Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green leading into the final minutes of the game.  The game was entering ‘fergie time’ (referee on duty A D Mooriner) and Bere Regis scored what they thought was the winner thanks to a fantastic goal by Alex ‘thunder shot’ Knox Jones but alas straight form the restart there was still time for a last gasp equaliser to break the hearts of the home team.  Man of the match went to Nat ‘the cat’ Hobbs for an all action performance in the heart of the defence.

04/12/2011 Chickerell United 2 Bere Regis 8

What a win!  Bere Regis displayed some of the ‘total football’ that we have been threatening  in the season so far.  It all came together and the scoreline could have been even more impressive. There were some fabulous goals to savour from Alex ‘thunder shot’ Knox Jones (3), Alfie ‘forever blowing bubbles’ Reeves (2), Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo (2) and Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green (1).  Hopefully this win will restore the confidence of the team for the second half of the season and we can push on and play some quality football.  Man of the match went to Alfie ‘forever blowing bubbles’ Reeves for his well taken 2 goals plus his stint between the sticks where he made some fine saves.

09/10/2011 Portland United 3 Bere Regis 3

Although going into this game we would have hoped for a victory we were pleased to come away with a draw in the end.  Bere Regis got off to a good start taking an early lead through Oliver ‘Suarez Mayo’ but were soon pegged back but once again took the lead thanks to a fine goal by Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones.  A late equalizer by Portland just before the half time whistle took the wind out of Bere’s sails somewhat leading into the second half where we soon fell behind.  This led to continued pressure by Bere Regis and a deserved equalizer and his second of the game for Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo.  We were slightly unfortunate not to pick up all three points as the woodwork was struck twice in the last 10 minutes of game.  Man of the match went to Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo for his tireless running capped by 2 goals.

16/10/2011 Bere Regis 3 Swanage Town & Herston 1

Bere Regis came through this game with probably one of their best performances of the season with a good all-round footballing display.  All three goals were scored by Alex ‘Thunder Shot’ Knox Jones and was very nearly ‘the perfect hatrick’, left foot, right foot and header, but his attempted header just went over the bar.  Man of the match went to Declan ‘Hammer’ Horwood for his fine display in the centre of defence, with this being the first time he has been asked to play in this position.

23/10/2011 Wareham Rangers 1 Bere Regis 0

Bere Regis travelled to local rivals Wareham with a somewhat depleted squad due to the half term holidays.  This was a disappointing result for the team but not for the want of the effort which the team put in which the managers could not fault.  In a game of very few chances, Wareham took one of theirs early in the second half and despite Bere Regis pushing very hard to equalize we could not quite create any clear chances to turn the game around.  Man of the match went to Morgan ‘Safe Hands’ Hannam Evans for a very commanding and assured performance in goal.

30/10/2011 Bere Regis 2 Weymouth Cougars 6

Bere Regis entertained the unbeaten league leaders and very quickly found themselves 3 nil down midway through the first half.  A goal was clawed through Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green but Weymouth Cougars quickly went up the other end of the pitch and scored a further three to make the half time score 6 – 1.  The management team quickly went about addressing the first half performance and have laid the blame squarely at the feet of the changing of the clocks as well as one or two ‘on the field’ matters.  Bere Regis played far more positively and aggressively in the second half and managed to pull a goal back which was again scored by Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green as well as other members of team forcing the Weymouth keeper to produce some great saves.  The score remained at 6 – 2 until the final whistle leaving the management team pleased with the second half performance.  Man of the match went to Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green for his fine midfield display capped by two goals.

06/11/2011 Weymouth FC Youth 7 Bere Regis 1

Bere Regis travelled to another of the top of table teams in good spirits on the back of the second half performance from the previous week.  During the first half the team played some of the best football of the season so far and were slightly unfortunate to find themselves a goal down 10 minutes in as it was the first real effort the home side had on goal.  Bere Regis soon equalized thanks to some good build up play and very smart and calm finish by Alfie ‘forever blowing bubbles’ Reeves and were unfortunate not to take the lead soon after following a fine cross by Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo which just alluded Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green.  Just minutes before the half time whistle Weymouth re-took the lead 2 – 1.
Not long into the second half Weymouth scored once again and from that point on, with Bere desperately trying to get back into the game, they picked off gaps left at the back to add to their tally.  In between times Nathan ‘Rooney’ Fellows pulled off a number of fine and brave saves between the sticks and quite rightly picked up the man of the match award for his display.

11/09/2011 Bridport Youth 1 Bere Regis 2

For the opening game of this season the under 9’s travelled away to play Bridport Youth in Beaminster in what is the first time this Bere Regis team are playing in a ‘competitive’ league having already been playing together for the past two seasons in ‘non-competitive’ league fixtures.

In a hard fought game Bere Regis took the lead half way through the first half after Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo was brought down 5 yards outside the area leading to a free kick which Alex ‘thunder shot’ Knox Jones smashed into the roof of the net.  Bere Regis continued to dominate and create numerous chances including a chance in which Harry ‘Bonecrusher’ Green hit the post and the excellent Bridport Youth keeper kept out numerous other shots on goal.
The second half started slightly nervously but Bere Regis soon found their rhythm once again but left it until the last 5 minutes before putting the travelling fans and management team out of their misery by finally scoring their second through Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo to settle their nerves.  In the final two minutes Bridport Youth scored a consolation goal but Bere Regis stood firm to get their campaign of to a winning start.
A great all-round team performance with other notable performances from Nathan ‘Rooney’ Fellows, Declan ‘Hammer’ Horwood and Benji ‘Basher’ Lightfoot.

18/09/2011 Bere Regis 0 Chickerell United 0

In our first home game of season, despite the weather, both teams managed to play some good football.  Bere Regis were slightly unlucky not pick up all three points as they dominated long periods of the game without managing to put the ball in the back of the net.  Man of the match was Nat ‘the cat’ Hobbs who saved a first half penalty and also put in a great performance in the second half in midfield.

25/09/2011 Dorchester Town Dynamos 5 Bere Regis 2

Despite the defeat against one of the strongest teams in the league this was an improved performance compared to the previous week.  After going in 3 - 0 down at half time, Bere Regis mounted a comeback at the beginning of the 2nd half getting the score back to 3 – 2 thanks to goals from Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo and Jack ‘Bozzy’ Bosworth.  Unfortunately late in the game Dorchester finished us off as we searched for an equaliser.  Man of the match went to Benji ‘Basher’ Lightfoot for an excellent display in the Bere defence.

02/10/2011 Bere Regis 3 Poole Town FC Wessex 1

A hard fought victory against a very good visiting team in probably some of the hottest conditions the team are likely to play in.  Bere were slightly fortunate to take the lead midway through the first half thanks to a goal from Oliver ‘Suarez’ Mayo as for long periods of the half the visiting team were creating the better chances.  Bere were pegged back to 1 – 1 at the half time break.

A slight change in formation and line up in the second half saw a better second half performance with a second goal being added by Nat ‘the cat’ Hobbs and a third by Alfie ‘forever blowing bubbles’ Reeves.  Man of the match went to Alex ‘thunder shot’ Knox Jones for a fine all-round display in the centre of midfield.
